Mafia Summary

One short word to describe it all - Mafia.
Mafia, developed by Illusion Softworks and published by Gathering, is a game based in the stereotypical 1930's mafia scene. Set forth in 'The City of Lost Heaven', you play as Tommy, a man throttled into a life of crime. You take on various typical mafia tasks, such as driving underbosses around as people are shooting at you, smuggling liquor and cigars into the city for use in your bar's speak-easy, and being the occasional hitman.

The graphics are much better than expected. Most people would expect a game like this to have 'meh' graphics, with the pixelated suit-and-tie, but instead the models and skins are very well done. In fact, this game comes close to comparison with Grand Theft Auto(III and up). Graphic-wise, it beats Grand Theft Auto(for now). Even the controls and movements in the game are so well set, that you wouldn't get the same effect from jumping into a wall as you would with other games of its genre. And to think this game came out of a small Czech Republic-based developer called Illusion Softworks.

This game got amazing reviews, starting with GameSpot giving it a 9.2(right around World of Warcraft) and me giving it a 9.9. Why a 9.9, you ask? Because every game has its flaws.(argh) The choice of vehicles isn't as broad as the Grand Theft Auto series, and the choice of weapons either. Plus, the little bugs and the fact that you can't swim or run from a police officer without them getting in front of you somehow really puts it down. And if I had to recommend this to anyone, they'd have to have a moderately powerful computer due to its graphics and large population of civilians and vehicles. And it has no loading times between city districts(surprise surprise).
