QuakeWars Summary

The alien race known as the Strogg is invading Earth in this yet to be released First-Person Shooter by id Software and Splash Damage. Unlike the original Enemy Territory game, which began life as a mod to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake Wars is a standalone game being produced by id and Splash Damage on a budget more in line with any other top tier game. While it may come as a shock to fans of the original Enemy Territory game that their will be a standard price tag, don't expect just a simple mod this time around. Enemy Territory is a full-fledge game that promises great things.

Those of you familiar with the Quake-series may be pleased to know that Quake Wars will tie into Quake's story. The battle taking place in Quake Wars chronologically takes place right before Quake II. In Quake II, players were confronted with the alien Strogg invasion of Earth and Quake Wars takes place during the initial invasion. Players will decide Earth's fate by either choosing the alien identity of the Strogg or the Earth Defense Force (EDF). As you'd expect, the Strogg will be armed with out-of-this-world weapons while the EDF will be armed with more conventional arms such as assault rifles and grenade launchers.

Aside from cool weapons, which are a must for any successful First-Person Shooter and easily expected by an id Software product, you can expect some kick-ass vehicles as well. Most of the game's levels are very large areas where the use of vehicles is a must. And if you're a physics-engine freak, do not worry – the Doom III engine that the game is based on has been hacked to the point that the vehicles operate as realistic as possible. And if you're a graphics-freak, do not worry either – Quake Wars looks awesome.

As far as game modes are concerned, the missions in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars sound quite awesome. The missions promise to play out differently that each other as well. A night-ops mission, for example, will certainly breed close-quarter bloody warfare. Such a tight battle will make the physics engine shine because players will be forced to travel carefully over the game's different surfaces in order to avoid being heard by opponents. The game features a point-distribution aspect to it that rewards both the player's ability to (boom!) headshot other players as well as their contribution to their teams goals.
