Gothic 3 Summary

Gothic 3, developed by Piranha Bytes (now officially named Pluto 13 GmbH), is the sequel to the fantasy role-playing game (RPG) series Gothic. Gathering and completing quests given by Non-Player Characters (NPCs), slaying animals and monsters for experience points to improve skills and discovering the reason behind the Orcish invasion of Khorinis in the previous game.

Alchemy, blacksmithing and other crafting elements bring further replay value into the game, allowing the player to create numerous items to assist them on their journey through the fantasy world of Myrtana. With a simple point and click interface, Gothic 3 is easy to learn for beginners though veterans to the Action-RPG genre will be challenged with the unusual combat system of enemy body language and combination attacks using dual weapons and a shield unlike in previous games of the series.

Powered by the Genome Engine, created in house by Pluto 13 GmbH, Gothic 3 boasts Pixel Shader 3.0, multithreaded design, and dynamic lighting with most communication with NPCs dubbed audibly. Though not new by today’s standards, during the game's development these were relatively new in the gaming scene.

Initially released with a high number of critical flaws and game breaking performance problems, the game was rated rather poorly in its initial release. However, after 4 patches (latest as of this writing being 1.12) the US version Gothic 3 performs smoother and rarely encounters problems.
