NetHack Summary

Way back when GUIs were brand new, and exclusively on Apples, the text-based games ruled. NetHack is one of the kings. Many nights were spent in college computer labs, guiding W or K through dungeons, eating corpses of B to briefly acheive flight, and mourning the premature deaths of small letter d.

Even though this game has just the one major quest (Amulet of Yendor), the redrawn dungeons and myriad enemies make it exciting and able to be played OVER and OVER and OVER. As in, if you count up all the hours, I probably wasted two whole years of my life playing this game - maybe 17.500 or so hours. I exaggerate a teeny bit, but I spent time on this from 1985 to 2003 when I gave it up for good. If you don't have a high-end computer, you should really get into this game.
