The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II
Battle for Middle earth II Summary
EA bought the titles for the book a few years ago with little to go on, but after the film EA had the chance to to create a great game that every one would love. After the release of Middle-Earthe I, EA relized that this game would become one of the best money makers in the company and would have a bright future.
Features
The game starts you off with two single-player campaigns, one for the good guys and one for the bad. Each campaign is eight missions long, with a really strong narrative thrust. Each mission changes up what you have to do, and it allows the developers to flesh out scenes from Middle Earth the movie and books don't touch on. One inspired mission has you moving dwarfs from one cave to another while being harried from above by a dragon. Every time you go into the open you feel hunted, and when the great beast sent fireballs down on armies, bodies would fly.
Races
The game has six races, from men to goblins to elves. Operationally most of the races are the same, so if you know how to climb the tech tree with one you won't have many surprises with another. Most of the units seem to be analogous to each other across the game. Some of them seemed a little redundant (did we need to have Mordor and Isengard as races?) It seems more like an excuse to use different models for the units than to have a separate race, each with their own characteristics.
