Rome Total War Summary

Rome: Total War, developed by Creative Assembly, follows the familiar game play from other Total War games such as Shogun: Total War and Medieval: Total War, focusing on turn based strategy similar to Risk on over-world maps and real-time combat in tactical battle maps. References to real world history are made through out the game; however, the plot and some characters are not historically accurate and are left open to interpretation. Following a tutorial, the player may choose to play 1 of three factions: Julii, Brutii, Scipii.

Real-Time battles take place in a closed map, with units that have been trained and positioned on the world-map. Placement, formation, strengths/weaknesses and movement are the keys to battle. Not considering every possible solution before a battle could leave your forces weak and routed or even destroyed. Loosing key locations in real-time battles such as hills or forest can also leave one open to devastating arrow volleys or brush ambushes.

The World Map focus on unit creation, city management, movement/positioning and Senate Missions that normally require taking over a city in the name of the Empire. Managing resources is critical early on like other Total War games, because leaving ports and choke points open to attack could leave the Empire crippled later on.
