Best Wii Virtual Console Solo Games
August 11, 2007, by xKarma
As a follow up to the list of the top 10 best Wii Virtual Console games to play with friends, I present to you the Top 10 Best Wii Virtual Console games to solo (in alphabetical order).
ActRaiser is the most unique title to make this list. ActRaiser is a split between an overhead strategy game and a scrolling arcade-style slash 'em up. While this may sound crazy, the balance and feel are awesome. All of the game's religious overtones are interesting as well.
Ninja Gaiden
Known as Shadow Warrior in Japan, Ninja Gaiden places you into the role of, you guessed it, a ninja. It is arguably the toughest of the side-scrolling style games to make the list and offers one of the best ninja video game experiences you can find.
Paper Mario
Somewhat of a sequel to Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario is simply a brilliant little title. If there is one downside to the game it is that it is fairly linear but the writing is witty and the soundtrack is top-notch.
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
One of the most popular video games of all-time, this game is the perfect choice for a solo game. As the now famous Little Mac, you'll be bobbing and weaving as you attempt to become to the boxing World Champion.
Super Castlevania IV
The
Castlevania series is notorious for being the series to count on for
vampire hunting good times. A side-scrolling whip 'em up that does not
let down fans of the series, Super Castlevania IV provides an awesome
experience highlighted by a soundtrack that will stay in your head long
after playing the game.
Super Mario Bros.
Very little needs said about the very first Mario Brothers platform adventure. To this day the look, feel, and sounds of this game are priceless and it is well worth the cost of your precious Virtual Console points.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Brothers 2 is a bit of an oddity. The game was actually originally intended to be a Doki Doki Panic game and does not look or feel like the rest of the Mario Bros. series. However, the game is still great and introduces some of the most memorable characters in the Mario franchise such as Shy Guy.
Super Mario World
The
first game ever released on the Super Nintendo, it is easy to argue
that this is the greatest Mario game of all-time. Once again you are
after that sneaky bastard Bowser but as usual there are unique
power-ups, great music, and graphics that age beautifully.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Princess Zelda is kidnapped as usual and it's your job to rescue her. Sounds pretty boring, right? Wrong. This is one of the greatest RPG experiences... ever. If you are at all a fan of the Zelda series or actiong RPG's then purchasing this game is a no-brainer.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda's debut on the Nintendo 64 has often been called the greatest video game of all-time. While validating such a claim is impossible since it is all relative to an individual's taste in gaming, it is simply impossible to not put this game on this list. If you are a fan of such games and have not played this: Buy it right now.
